Local Missions

Out of his great love, Jesus Christ takes seriously the tremendous and pressing needs that exist in the world and in the lives of people.  Northwood Presbyterian Church (USA), moved and motivated by the love of Jesus, is committed to sharing Jesus’ love in real and tangibles ways to make a difference in people’s lives, in our community and in the world.

Beth-El Farm Worker Ministry – This ministry helps farm workers achieve self-sufficiency through its open opportunities to worship, its extensive educational programs, and the many services it provides to meet basic needs.

  • Beth-El Shoe Sunday – During the month of August, concluding on the last Sunday of the month, Northwood members and friends bring new or lightly used shoes in good condition to be given to the children, youth & adults of the Beth El Farm Workers Mission. The shoes help meet a need as the children and youth prepare to return to school and the adults prepare for the Fall harvest.
  • Beth-El Blanket Sunday – On the first Sunday of November, Northwood members and friends bring blankets to the church which are collected and given to the farm workers and their families.
  • Beth-El Angel Tree -  At Christmas Northwood provides an Angel Tree for members to contribute food and clothing for the children and adults.

Habitat for Humanity – Northwood has sponsored the build of a Habitat House and provided a lunch on one of the work days.

Meals on Wheels -
Northwood supports a Meals on Wheels route. Because of Meals on Wheels, people are allowed to continue living independently in their own homes.

Northwood Food Pantry –
Grocery food bags are provided to those coming to Northwood looking for food assistance.  The bags contain a variety of canned goods, peanut butter, and jelly. Northwood members support this ministry both financially and by dropping off food items at the church throughout the month. We provided over 350 bags of food last year.

Northwood Home Communion –
A team of Northwood Elders and Deacons provide a Home Communion worship service on the second Sunday of the month to the residents of the Palm Garden Health Center, and provides communion to homebound Northwood members.

Religious Community Services (RCS) – Northwood maintains a clothing bin at the church for people in the community to drop off clothing for the RCS thrift store.
